When I first encountered Jessica the Hippo on youtube, I fell in love. I am not a hippo enthusiast or anything but this is no ordinary man-eating mammal.
Rescued in South Africa, Jessica was saved by humans from a flood when she was just a few hours old. Despite being free to go wherever and whenever she wants, Jessica stays with her "family" and lives as a pampered pet on their ranch.
Some perks she enjoys are sweet coffee breaks and full body aromatherapy massages before bed (her adopted mom is an aesthetician) - no wonder she doesn't want to leave!
I was elated to discover that Animal Planet (here in Canada) is airing a one-hour special entirely devoted to Jessica tonight.
